Avoid the Cinnamon edition if you can. Too many issues with graphics cards and drivers.
Nothing wrong with Mint 10, of course, but it won't be supported for very much longer.Barrieluvhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03056098344463233500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6421547359251166180.post-31302186890120392292012-07-07T22:24:24.316+01:002012-07-07T22:24:24.316+01:00Thank you so much for posting this!
I have been ...Thank you so much for posting this!
I have been using Ubuntu on my own Dell Inspiron 1501 since 2007 and while I'm not too happy with Untiy's speed on my laptop using Ubuntu 11, I don't have much to complain about. However, I recently installed Ubuntu 10 on my daughter's Inspiron 2200 mainly to teach her a lesson about downloading all kinds of malware and system-gobbing crap from various websites on her machine which previously ran Windoze XP.

My point was that she would use an OS that all her productivity could be done on and more without being in danger of gobbing up her system due to Window's countless vulnerabilities.

Keeping in mind that her machine is quite dated, I thought it could take a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10 at least and the instillation went fine and so did the configuration of the wireless card.

her machine runs a 1.5 Ghz Celeron processor, has 1.2 Gbs of RAM and about 40 Gig HD space. yet 10 is running sluggishly slow on the machine. Opening windows and even right-clicking seems slow and videos on youtube will play choppy or slow.

I suspect that it may be the video card which I think is an Intel GMA 900 Integrated Graphics with 128MB Shared Memory.

What I will do is try Linux Mint 10 and see if that will be better. It seems a lot of people are loving Mint.Dr. Bels1dushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10521816311216685005noreply@blogger.com
